Powell's Address to the U.N.

| 5 Comments | 1 TrackBack

Full trasncript plus links to video etc. can be found right here. Or, the Washington Post has a summary if you prefer (Hat Tip: Red Alert)

Over at Little Green Footballs, there's also a moving speech today from the co-prime minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government (geography note: northern Iraq under the no-fly zone): "Give Us A Chance to Build a Democratic Iraq".

Powell did a great job. But watching pundits and thinking about reactions, I've concluded that at this point, anyone opposed to war with Iraq also HAS TO BE opposed to the U.N. Security Council Resolution 1441 (which even France signed on to).

Iraq is so flagrantly in comtempt of Resolution 1441 that even Bill Clinton couldn't bend the words to dodge the material breach violation(s). A rational anti-war protester should be running around saying that 1441 makes unacceptable demands on Iraq and that the Americans duped the rest of the Security Council into passing a resolution which guarantees war against Iraq. But almost no one is saying that . . . . . . .

So far I've been to three somewhat left sites, and of nine comments left five were "There can't be a terrorist training site in Northern Iraq or we would have bombed/attacked it by now." Bloodthirsty little devils, aren't they?

Noble Terrorism:

Dear Editor,
Noble men as they preferred to be called during their time of reign, starting from Biblical times were corrupt, selfish and in some cases felt that they were the gifts of God; take Rome for example, the Pharaoh of Egypt, Napoleon of France, Alexander of Greece, Stalin of Russia, Hitler of Germany and a lot more than I will leave unmentioned. Let us look into the present and make our judgement, maybe we were right or maybe we were wrong with our decisions in choosing a leader for our country. Great-grandchildren of the Roman Empire govern us today such as George Bush of the United States, who is our President and a few of his colleagues, not forgetting Tony Blair of Great Britain. If these gentlemen can stop and think for a little, they will stop their nonsense and rhetoric because they are all guilty of crimes against humanity. The United States of America is a beautiful country but is governed by corrupt individuals and racial elements that use laws to cover up their crimes, like cats cover their filth. However, regardless of their cover up the cat filth will smell and those crimes will come to surface. It is very stupid when members of the congress of the U.S. or members of the Parliament in London tell the world that those who they are fighting are jealous of the West. We all know that a lot of wars were created because of greed which led to big business for corporations. Let us examine the facts: all of Africa, a land rich in natural resources and corrupt leaders, Central and South America plagued with the same sort of corruption. In today’s world, the U.S., like Britain, France, and Spain use force and ignorance to conquer countries that are less powerful than them, they stick their flags and make their claims. They even pushed their ideologies while they raped those countries of their wealth. If this is not terrorism then surely it is not liberation. Look at the United Nations that was up by the U.S. and the British to make this world a better place for all mankind. However, today we live to see the United Nations is the business center for these corrupted leaders who blame others.
There are passages in the Bible with the quotes, “Do unto others and you would like them do unto you,” and “Thou shall not covet thy neighbour’s property…thou shall not kill…thou shall not bear false witnesses against thy neighbour.” These messages should apply to President Bush and his comrades, Tony Blair and his colleagues and the others who assist to invade and murder innocent human beings in other countries with the help of the U.N. By saying so make no war about it, the U.N.’s general secretary Mr. Cuffy Anand is responsible for what is happening right now. If we are the head of such an organization one that was created to protect the rights of all human beings and countries then we must not be forced to sell our souls because we owe it to our fellow human beings. What goes for one goes for all. We make sanctions against Cuba, Libya, Iran, Iraq but refuse to ask for sanction against Israel and the United States for refusing to follow the law that was laid down for all by a few noble souls. If the U.N. was created to represent the world and to protect the rights of every country and their citizens within the boundary then this world would be a beautiful place that we can call paradise but when members of the U.N. refuse to do the job that they swore to do then and only then the hands of the peacemaker God Almighty will have to step in and no one can bribe or threaten such a glorious liberator. Let us ask ourselves a few questions who is right and who is wrong and why are countries not allowed to survive on their own without the help of a few bullies. One must not forget the past where great nations fell because of the ideology, force and brutality upon innocent human beings in the world but what goes around comes around and nothing lasts forever. There was once a man named Goliath who was prepared for a battle, he was dressed with his armor, his sword and his spears and his shield and his country and all the citizens were with him until came a young Shepard called David with his slinging shot and a rock. The great giant Goliath fell to the ground. It is a shame in this modern time when we are supposed to be more educated we act more ignorant and feel we are the heroes of the world. When others defend themselves or their countries we refer to them as communists, rebel without a cause, gorillas but in today’s world we use better terms such as terrorists. Not long from now the hands of the Almighty God will prove to those who is in control. Let us all condemn all crimes such as invasions, murdering innocent people in the name of freedom and democracy for war will bring death there is no winner neither is there a hero for revenge will be the call of time where there will be no voice heard for peace because today for me tomorrow for you so why not save the world as we have the chance for it belongs to all of us not just to a few. Let us speak with one voice, lift the blockade from Cuba, Libya, Iraq, North Korea and the rest that we are sanctioning economically. Long live the world! Long live the God fearing citizens of the world down with corruption regardless of our race and religion give peace a chance, give the future a chance so we all can be proud and sing and dance for the coming of the Messiah which is not long from now.

George Emmanuel.

I look forward to your reception when you deliver this exact same sermon to, say, the present rulers of Iran. Would pay to see it, actually.

Yes, I'm being facetious, but the point is serious - you somehow fail to demand this behaviour of the Saddam Husseins of this world, or the Bin Ladens, or the Iranian mullahs. Why is that? Nor do you seem to have any coherent response when this standard is not met by people who wish to kill us. Which would make your comments deeply foolish, even without your final ravings on the approaching end times.

Besides which - since you're using The Bible as your template, doesn't it also have a few passages where evil people in the Middle East and those who follow them are killed to the last man, woman, and child in order to execute the Justice of Heaven in requite for their wickedness? Wondering when that will be your next lunatic recommendation....

Here are some quick tips for adding simple Textile formatting to your comments, though you can also use proper HTML tags:

*This* puts text in bold.

_This_ puts text in italics.

bq. This "bq." at the beginning of a paragraph, flush with the left hand side and with a space after it, is the code to indent one paragraph of text as a block quote.

To add a live URL, "Text to display":http://windsofchange.net/ (no spaces between) will show up as Text to display. Always use this for links - otherwise you will screw up the columns on our main blog page.
